Reflecting on my 11 year old Self
Why the Future was so Exciting at the Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow
I remember the World’s Fair like it was yesterday. My cousins lived in Long Island and took the railroad by themselves and bragged that they went eleven times to my four with my parents. I loved going so much. All countries had their own pavillion and so did each state. There was so much food but the Belgian waffle with real whipped cream and strawberries was the biggest hit.
The monorail, the GM, Ford and Chrysler Pavillions with cars of the future, the home of the future with all the modern conveniences that we all take for granted.
The Clairol Pavilion was for women only which seemed odd but it was 1964. For women the story was the household. This was her domain. " Home life revolves around the Life Support Center. The central energy generator which supplies the power for lighting and heating and cooling as well as for operating all the life support devices.”
Sounds like life support mattered in 1965 looking ahead 20 years.
Traveling into the future at 11 was the most exciting thing in my whole life. I wanted to live like the Jetsons in flying cars and take the monorail around New York City. I want to be optimistic about the future in 2025. I probably should eat more Belgian Waffles. (with REAL whipped cream)
I remember the Pepsi pavilion and the song It’s a Small World After All. Have repeated the experience many times at Disneyland and Disneyworld.
